PFO Newsletter - March 14

Change your life by doing this one thing…

As I write this, my ears are throbbing…because I decided to embark on some mother-daughter bonding yesterday. My daughter, Caroline, convinced me to get my ears triple pierced and also get one in the cartilage up top. THIS is the point in my life that I realized my child’s pain tolerance is MUCH higher than mine. Caroline didn’t flinch. I nearly cried.

I have so much to share with you…I’m struggling to know where to start. So, I’ll start with some encouragement for you…

My friend, Jamie Kern Lima, was on the verge of bankruptcy after being rejected hundreds of times before she went on to form IT Cosmetics. Yes, she sold IT Cosmetics for over a billion dollars. And, yes, she went on to become the first female CEO in L’Oreal’s history.

BUT, hear me again: she was on the verge of bankruptcy and heard “NO” hundreds of times. The rejection was personal, as well. At one point she was told, “I don’t think people will buy makeup from someone who looks like you with your body and weight…”

Can you even imagine? So, how did Jamie continue to believe in herself? And, more importantly, why did she know to keep going?

Jamie learned to change her relationship with rejection…and she tells me in this week’s podcast that if we can learn to change it, it will change our lives!

There are a few ways to do that…

  1. First of all, realize this is something everyone struggles with. You’re not alone.

  2. Jamie says she learned to change her perspective… After rejection, she CHOSE not to wallow. Rather, she would tell herself “I’m so brave! I’m one of the BRAVE ONES who chose to go for it!”

  3. Regret — no one wants to live with it. What’s the BEST thing that can happen if you go for it? Focus on that…and keep reminding yourself how brave you are.

  4. When the self-doubt and fear and negative self-talk creep in…remember to ask yourself “is it true? Is It kind? Is it helpful?”

Friends, you are braver than you know… and you are not alone!
