For those asking about my podcast...

Hello, my friend! You’ve been asking whether I’ll ever bring my podcast back…and, I have some news on that front. (Keep scrolling!)

But first, there’s one question that ruffles my feathers more than the others…

Soooo, hypothetically, let’s say we walk into a room full of strangers. We ask one another's name, “What’s your name?” And it’s the next question that kills me. “What do you do?”

Yes. Your job. Because we’re so conditioned in this society to believe that’s where our worth and often, our identity, come from.

And, we’re asking our kids the same question. “What do you want to do when you grow up?” As if their only contribution to society is…yep, their job.

Flashback: I had a full-out identity crisis when my job changed a few years back. You may also be struggling to separate your identity from what you do. (Love what you do, don’t be defined by it. That’s a hard thing to do!)

This is one reason I’m so passionate about asking our children a different question. And, it’s why I wrote Who Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up? Yes, it’s a kid's book. (And it’s out in three weeks!) But, I think it’s so important to separate what we do from who we are. Our jobs change. Our unique talents and gifts, who we were created to be, don’t change.

Asking this question gets kids to focus on the type of person they want to be and how they were uniquely created — whether it’s generous, kind, curious, competitive, determined, loyal, etc.

So today, I want to ask you: who do you want to be now that you’re grown up? It’s never too late to start. ❤️

And next time you’re in a room full of strangers and someone asks you “What do you do?”, don’t rip them a new one like I’m tempted to do. LOL. Instead, try asking them something different, such as “What are you into?”

Slowly, but surely, we’re going to start asking the right questions and focus on what matters most.

Oh, and before I forget, I’m launching a new show (video AND audio) in October, The Paula Faris Show. (I know, super creative name 🤣.)  But, I’ll be bringing you conversations to help you live your best life, talking about real life. Season one’s theme is “My Big Break”, where I’ll be talking to my guests about their big break and the moment that changed things for them.I’ll be clueing you in before anyone else on who the guests are and will be taking viewer questions What would you like me to ask my guests? So, here’s your chance to ask Rob Thomas (Matchbox 20), Sazan Hendrix (influencer, mom of 3), Jesse Palmer (Former NFL QB and host of ‘The Bachelor’) or Trey Kennedy (comedian and new dad), a question. DM it to me here and when I’m in conversation with them, I’ll ask it on your behalf!

Please spread the word about the show — I need your support!

I'm so grateful for you!

FARIS FAVORITES

1. What I'm LOVING

Okay, okay, I ate some crow about this one. My friend has been singing the praises of RED ASPEN glue on nails. Yes, you heard me right. So, I had my daughter, Caroline, put them to the test. She’s worn them through volleyball practices and games and THEY ARE STILL ON. (That’s a photo of her at volleyball practice.) I’m a fan. Especially since I can do my nails for $14, instead of dropping $40-$50 at the salon and having my nails ruined from the polish and process. You may laugh, as I did! But, give them a try and we’ll eat crow together.

2. What I'm WEARING

If I see you out and about and like what you’re wearing, don’t be surprised if I ask where your wardrobe is from. True story: I ran into a very stylish woman (hi, Jackie!) a few weeks ago in the bathroom, at a leadership conference in Chicago. I LOVED HER JEANS. I asked where she got them. She told me KOHL’S, y’all. She then sent me the link. And, I am now completely obsessed with them! There are other styles, but as a mom of three, I’m a fan of the high waist!

3. What I'm WATCHING

Hubby and I are watching a show that came highly recommended, called “Daisy Jones & the Six.” My daughter and I are watching another highly recommended show called “Sweet Magnolias.” One of those shows is edgy. The other is not. I’ll let you decide which is which. But, I’m equally loving both!
