PFO Newsletter - 2.14.24

It’s Valentine’s Day…but, instead of talking about flowers, hearts and all things love, how about if we talk about something else?

Like, Buffalo Wings.

Wings are the love language of my youngest son. His favorite food. And, I had a hot date with him this week. :)

Buffalo sauce smeared all over his face and hands is a common look for him. Speaking of LOOKS, what do you think about my newsletter’s new look?

In last week’s poll, I asked you if you’d read Atomic Habits by James Clear, who kicked off Season Two of my podcast. I’m shook because 86% of you have not read it!

Sandra, Denise and Shana won the autographed copies in last week’s newsletter. But, I’m especially loving your feedback about the book. (Keep reading till the end to hear what our community is saying.)

I want to encourage you today with a story I read in Atomic Habits and it shows the power of mindset and the power ONE word can have over our life. In this particular part of the book, James is writing about an interaction he had with a man in a wheelchair…

“When asked if it was difficult being confined, he responded, “I'm not confined to my wheelchair—I am liberated by it. If it wasn't for my wheelchair, I would be bed-bound and never able to leave my house.” This shift in perspective completely transformed how he lived each day.”

That blew my mind. We don't HAVE to do anything. We GET to. We GET to wake up. We GET to hug our loved ones. We GET to exercise. We GET to cook dinner for our family (though I don’t know if even this mindset shift will give me a better attitude about it 🤣). By changing just that one word, you shift how you view it. Instead of burdens, these become opportunities.

What do you GET to do today, friend?

FARIS FAVORITES 🤎

1. New Book Giveaway 📖

This Sunday, I’ll be in Charleston with Savannah Guthrie as part of her book tour! Her book releases next week, and I’d like to gift FIVE of you with an autographed copy. The first FIVE to DM me “Savannah” along with your mailing address, will get a signed copy of “Mostly What God Does.”

2. My Scalp Hero

I’ve shared on my socials that I’ve been losing my hair in CLUMPS. Not sure if it’s hormonal or what. But, I started using this weird, red light therapy massager device, called SCALP HERO, a little over a month ago. And, so far, so good. I have TONS of new growth. I’ll report back to you in another month to give my final review. But, so far, I give it a thumbs up. 👍🏼

3. What I’m Watching

Looking for a good movie to watch? I just watched ‘The Vow’ (Rachel McAdams, Channing Tatum) with my crew and we loved it. It’s the TOP MOVIE on Netflix right now. But get this: it was released in 2012. However, Netflix just added it to their streaming mix. What’s it about? A car accident puts Paige in a coma and when she wakes up with severe memory loss, her husband Leo works hard to get her to remember him, again.  It’s a sweet movie. With some definite “Notebook” vibes. Watch the trailer HERE.

Too Good Not to Share 😘

This one got me real good…

She lost her dad years ago and on her wedding day, walked down the aisle with the man who received her father’s donated heart.😭 I can’t imagine there was a dry eye anywhere!

THE PAULA FARIS SHOW 🎙️

Losing Stephen and Parenting Through Loss with Allison Holker Boss

Our hearts broke for Allison Holker Boss when her husband, Stephen Twitch Boss (a fixture on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and an incredible dancer), took his own life a little over a year ago. So, how do we talk to our children about grief and loss? Whether it’s losing a loved one, the loss of a relationship, or any of us trying to find our way in a season of hurt.

How to Build ATOMIC Habits in our Kids with James Clear

I honestly can’t believe how lucky we are to kick off Season Two with James Clear, author of Atomic Habits! Atomic Habits is one of the best-selling books of all time, with more than 15 million copies sold to date. James doesn’t do many of these interviews, so I’m fired up that he joined me on the podcast!
