Happy Holidays, Friends!

I meant to write to you earlier in the week…but, like you, we are in peak hustle mode this holiday season.

Right now, I’m at my 10 year-olds basketball practice and the moment this ends, we’re off to my 15-year-old’s Varsity Basketball game…dinner will be Chick-Fil-A. Bedtime will be way too late.

And morning coffee won’t come soon enough.

Tis the season, right? 🤣

(At Landon’s basketball practice)

One of our challenges, especially this time of year, is finding programming that we can ALL watch, as a family. John and I invited Dallas Jenkins to the podcast this week to talk about it, as Dallas is fresh off directing my new fave holiday movie, “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”

(Dallas is not only a Director/Producer, he’s also the Creator of ‘The Chosen’, the largest crowd-funded TV series in history.)

But, Dallas told us something that really encouraged us. He said the biggest media companies in the world are now pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into family-friendly programming that once was thought to be kryptonite. This programming is now part of their global media strategies. He’s never seen anything like it.

Since Dallas has pretty good taste in entertainment, we also asked him to share a few of his holiday movies. So, make sure you cue these up this holiday season.

🌲It’s A Wonderful Life

🌲The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (Still in theaters)

🌲A Christmas Story

🌲Home Alone

🌲A Christmas Carol (George C Scott’s)

🌲Muppet Christmas Carol

🌲Christmas Chronicles I and II

What would you add? Put it in the comments at the bottom of the newsletter.

Okay, basketball practice is almost over. So, I need to put a bow on this. Keep reading for my favorites and I’ll see you soon.

FARIS FAVORITES 🤎

1. HOLIDAY FUN: Spin The Bow! 🎀

My whole family is visiting for the Christmas holiday and rather than do our gift swaps, (the one where we all end up with yet another water bottle and blanket we didn’t need or want 🤪) we’re going to play THIS GAME. If you end up playing, make sure you share it and tag me!

2. MILLION DOLLAR Mashed Potatoes!

I’ll never NOT make crock pot mashed potatoes, from this point forward. I made them for Thanksgiving and they were so easy and delish!

3. Paula’s Christmas List 🎄🎄🎄

Some of my favorite gifts this holiday season, a weighted vest from Amazon, a cross body bag or jewelry from ABLE. Also, you can get 40% (yes, 40!!) off your order from ABLE when you use the code “CARRY”. Happy shopping!

POLL RESULTS

In our last poll, the strong majority of you want John and I to talk about RELATIONSHIPS in our upcoming “Ask Us Anything” podcast episode…Here are a few of your comments.

“I would love it if you and John talk about how scary it is to have your kids dating. Also, talking to your kids about puberty and sex.”

“I would love your insight on mainstream media and how it contributes to our lives. As a journalist, were you told what to say while you were on the air?”

" Do you two ever not see eye-to-eye on your social lives? My husband and I have been married over 30 years. He is becoming a homebody while I still want to go and do.”

“Best questions to ask on a college visit?”

“I’m a single-again woman by widowhood, and would love relationship advice for those looking for lasting love in their 40’s and beyond.”

THE PAULA FARIS SHOW 🎙️

Mothers In-Law And Figuring Out whose House We’re Going To For The Holidays (With Rachel Awtrey)

The reality is that 95% of us will be with our families over the holidays. So, how do you determine whose house you’re going to? And, how do you navigate the in-law relationships, particularly the one with your mother-in-law? I was shocked to learn that over half of women are either satisfied or HIGHLY satisfied with the relationship they have with their mothers-in-law! Confusing, right? Because that’s not the narrative we hear…so, maybe the relationship gets a bad rap?  To talk about it all, I’ve invited mom, podcaster and new friend Rachel Awtrey to the podcast for an honest conversation about the complexities of determining whose house we go to.

The Surprising Future of Family Friendly Content (With John, Paula, and The Chosen’s Dallas Jenkins)

One of our challenges as a family is finding really good programming that’s not only compelling, but it’s safe for us to watch with our whole crew. This is something we hear from a LOT of families.  So, John and I invited Dallas Jenkins (Director/Creator) to the show to discuss our favorite holiday movies and family shows and why he’s saying, “He’s never seen anything like it” when it comes to the future of family-friendly programming.  Happy Holidays, family.
