Called Out Book Club | WEEK SIX!

Hi Friend,

We got the band back together last Wednesday and to say we had a great time was an understatement! Dan Harris, Sara Haines and I worked together at Good Morning America––and we are dear friends to this day. Dan just left GMA/ABC News and one of my favorite parts of this conversation was honoring him for his 20-year run...then, Sara and I promptly mocking his wardrobe choice for this IG Live. 😂

But we did have incredible conversations about feeling unqualified and unready for the different vocational callings in our lives. And, why it's so hard for this world to love one another even though we may disagree. Sara said it’s because we have stopped asking questions, we speak in emotion and we no longer speak in with information. I love that Dan also mentioned we have to go into discussions with people we disagree with, NOT to change their minds. What a great perspective! I'm really proud of the fact that the three of us adore one another even though we have very different world views and backgrounds.

SHOUT OUTS OF THE WEEK:

Dan mentioned an organization called Braver Angels. They are doing incredible work to shift the conversation to depolarize politics. Also, for all our friends who asked about Sara’s awesome tye died sweatshirt, check out Aviator Nation Finally –– I was wearing my favorite shirt to represent Lighthouse Family Retreats which is an organization I am passionate about that gives kids walking through cancer, and their families, time together away to make memories and have fun!

You can check out more of our conversation here.

Next week is our FINAL week of #calledoutbook club and it is going to be a really sweet way to end as my teen daughter Caroline joins me along with my friend, Lysa TerKeurst. We're talking about who we want to BE...and why we should stop asking our children "what do you want to do when you grow up?".  Spoiler alert: there's a much better question we can all start asking them :) Join us Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. EST as we wrap this all up. I hope that you will take this book and these discussions into your own communities so that we can all live a little more Called Out.

In the meantime, here’s the latest on The Paula Faris ‘Faith and Calling’ Podcast.

EPISODE 35 –– Is it a hobby or a calling? –– I’m happy to report that I’ve composed myself since having this conversation with a musical icon. I had the chance to chat with Grammy winner, pioneer and mom, AMY GRANT! We talk about why she thought her music was simply a phase, her recent open-heart surgery, pioneering a new genre of music and more!  Listen Now!
